Weekly Post: Feb. 3rd - 7th

Monday marks the first school day of Black History Month. If you are doing any activities make sure to let Mo or I know as we would love to stop by. If you are going to tweet them out make sure to use #ocsbBlackHistory and of course #JERPride!! We are going to have students look at some Canadians of African descent who have made contributions to our country and we will highlight them in our morning announcements.

If you have any artwork in the following areas, please sent it down to be displayed in the front:

  • Black History Month
  • Kindness Month and Valentine's Day
We have had a few injuries over the past couple of school days on the hills. Until we have a little more snow I think it will be best to hold off on the sledding. Once we have more snow on the ground we can get back at it.

Here is how the week is looking:

  • Monday: Rag and Bone AM in gym
  • Tuesday:
  • Wednesday:
  • Thursday
  • Friday: Junior Ski Day
If you have a swipe card please fill out this form by 1 PM on Monday: Re-Activating Swipe Card Form

If you have any pictures to add to our yearbook folders, please do so here.

Weekly Post: Jan. 20th - 24th

Here is how the week is looking:

  • Monday:
  • Tuesday: School Council Meeting 6:30 PM
  • Wednesday: 1st Reconciliation at St. Leonard's Parish 7 PM
  • Thursday:
  • Friday: PD Day
Thanks for another great week everyone. Hopefully, we will not have too many days like Friday where the students have to be inside all day. I know that next week is going to be a little rough and I am sure everyone hopes that the province and the teacher unions can come to an agreement sooner than later. Please do not hesitate to as Mo or myself if you need anything. We will try our best to help you out.

Some of you may have received an email from an ndpl.global email address last week. I checked with the school board and it is legit and principals have yet to recienve the information regarding these emails. They will be letting us know at our next CLL meeting. I believe they sent it out too early by mistake. If you signed up, there is nothing to worry about.

I know that some of you are going sledding and have been asking about helmets. I have copied and pasted the elementary OPHEA guidelines below and students do not require helmets. However, you do have to notify parents in the permission letter of the importance of wearing CSA approved helmets.

Tobogganing/Sledding OPHEA Guidelines

Equipment

  • Determine that all equipment is safe for use (for example, no sharp corners, cracks, or splinters). Students must be encouraged to report equipment problems to the teacher.
  • Toboggans, sleds and other sliding apparatus approved by your school board. (Visit Parachute Canada for support).
  • Discs and inner tubes must not be used.
  • Toboggan/sled and other school board-approved apparatus must be in good repair with no jagged edges.
  • Parents/guardians must be informed of the importance of wearing a properly fitted (as per manufacturer's guidelines) and properly worn CSA approved hockey helmet or snow sport helmet certified by a recognized safety standards association (for example, ASTM F2040, CEN 1077, Snell RS-98, CSA Z263.1).
  • A safety inspection must be carried out at home of any equipment brought to school for personal use in class to ensure it is in good working order and is suitable for personal use.

Refer to the First Aid section for first aid equipment requirements.

Welcome back to school after your well-deserved break! I hope you all had a great two weeks off with family and friends. This week looks pretty quiet to start off 2020 so I will keep this pretty brief.

At our last staff meeting, we talked about where students are on their collaboration journey and we gave you a survey to do with your class. We will be looking at this survey next week at our staff meeting so please make sure that you have this done with your students.
When you spend your funds from School Council, please complete this form and place it in my mailbox. I will approve it and give it to School Council so you can get reimbursed. This form is also in our Hapara Workspace. If you have already submitted your receipts, no need to do this form. You were ahead of the game!
